Accessibility

Supporting Hands is committed to making this website as accessible and user-friendly as possible. We have designed and built our website to meet the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. If you have any suggestions or feedback regarding the accessibility of our website, or if you encounter any issues while using it, please let us know.

Viewing Options

Our website offers several viewing options to enhance your experience:

  1. Standard Version
  2. Accessible Version: Black on White
  3. Accessible Version: Black on White, No Images
  4. Accessible Version: White on Black
  5. Accessible Version: White on Black, No Images

For users of screen reader software, we recommend choosing one of the text-only viewing options. These versions are optimized for screen readers, fit the maximum width of your browser, and are ideal if you wish to adjust the font size on the website.

Font Resizing

To change the font size on our website, you can either select an accessible version or modify your browser settings:

Using Accessible Versions

Choose one of the accessible viewing options listed above, which are designed to accommodate font resizing.

Modifying Browser Settings

– In your browser’s toolbar, select “View”.
– Choose “Text Size” or “Zoom” from the dropdown menu.
– Select your preferred text size or zoom level.

Headers and Links

We utilize headers and descriptive links throughout our website to enhance navigation and compatibility with assistive technologies like screen readers.

Training Our Web Contributors

We conduct in-house training for all team members who manage website content. Participants engage in accessibility and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) sessions to understand our legal, ethical, and practical responsibilities toward users with disabilities. Our training objectives include:

  • Crafting clear and easy-to-understand text to ensure good readability.
  • Creating meaningful link text so that the destination is clear, even when read out of context.
  • Providing appropriate alternative text for images to convey information to users who cannot see them.
  • Using headers effectively to improve readability and assistive technology navigation.
  • Including a feedback link on every page to encourage user comments on accessibility or any other issues.
